Lakewood’s Punkel
The Autumn season is now fully upon us, and along with football and the State Fair fried food, the fall also brings with it some For solid seasonal brews. Now, before you go rolling your eyes, BencaDDS.com in my growler this week is not your girlfriend’s typical pumpkin-flavored excuse for a beer. I’ve always been a man that prefers his beer to be beer-flavored, which is exactly why I filled up this week with Punkel by Lakewood Brewing Company out of Garland, TX.
Punkel (a cross of the words Pumpkin and Dunkel… get it?) is a dark German-style lager that has a slight nose of pumpkin pie spices, but is brewed with no pumpkin, resulting in beer that cheap jerseys taste like beer, but for some reason makes you nostalgic Hello for Thanksgiving after the last sip. LBC puts it best, describing the flavor as “complimenting a slice of pie rather than cheap jerseys China drinking a slice of pie”.
